Swedish medical experts have discovered that taking a three-minute walk or other light exercise every 30 minutes instead of sitting in the office all day is good for your health.

It should be noted that in most of the offices in the world, the workers who do “desk work” get very little time to get up and walk from their place from morning to evening.

On a long-term basis, this routine has a detrimental effect on their health and they also suffer from a variety of diseases, from obesity to heart disease and diabetes.


The three-week study was conducted on 16 volunteers, including 10 women and 6 men.

Half of these volunteers maintained a ten-hour daily routine, morning to evening, in which they rarely got up from their seats. This method is common in office environments around the world.

The other half of the volunteers were given special clocks that reminded them every 30 minutes that they had to do light exercise for three minutes (walking briskly or going up and down stairs, etc.), while the same clocks also recorded the physical activity of these volunteers ۔

The results of this study are published in a recent issue of Endocrinology and Metabolism, which shows that only 30 minutes of light physical activity every 30 minutes, not just blood sugar (glucose). The risk of developing “metabolic syndrome” was also slightly reduced.

It should be noted that “metabolic syndrome” is a combination of five symptoms which are excessive amount of glucose in the blood, low cholesterol in the blood, excess amount of fats called triglycerides in the blood, dilated waist (obesity) and high blood. There is pressure.

These volunteers also had better insulin performance, which improved blood sugar control. And so these volunteers have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Experts say the benefits of just three minutes of light exercise every half hour are small, but they cannot be ignored.

He believes that if the duration of this simple exercise or physical exercise, which is done intermittently during the day, is increased by more than three minutes, the same results can be even better.

For this, they are preparing more research which will last for more than three weeks while keeping the number of volunteers involved.
