What are the side effects of statin drugs?

Statin drugs are commonly prescribed to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke. However, like all medications, statins can cause side effects. The most common side effects of statins include:

Headache
Difficulty sleeping
Flushing of the skin
Muscle aches, tenderness, or weakness (myalgia)
Drowsiness
Dizziness

Serious side effects of statins are rare but can include muscle pain and damage, liver damage, increased blood sugar or type 2 diabetes, and neurological side effects
