Wedding gowns were made and sold by Alfred Angelo Bridal, which was both a manufacturer and a shop. The city of Delray Beach in Florida served as the location of the company’s headquarters. Although the company is largely known for its designs of wedding dresses, it also made outfits for bridesmaids, mothers of the bride, flower girls, and offered wedding accessories.
During the middle of the 1930s, Alfred Angelo and his wife, Edythe Piccione, established their business in the city of Philadelphia. Edythe was in charge of the clothing designs, while Alfred was responsible for the manufacture and the expansion of the business. Through both its own name-brand stores and the stores of its retail partners, the company sold bridal and formal clothing.
In the 1980s, the children of the company’s founder, Vincent and Michele Piccione, took over management responsibilities. The corporation extended its retail stores around the nation under the direction of the children.
Labels such as Alfred Angelo, Sapphire, Modern Vintage, and Disney Fairy Tale collections were used to advertise dresses in accordance with their respective styles and price points. A segment of the business was filmed for the television show Undercover Boss in the year 2013, which aired in 2013.
On July 13, 2017, the company submitted a petition for liquidation under Chapter 7 of the United States Bankruptcy Code and promptly liquidated all of its locations. After one year, the lawsuit was still being administered by the court, and clients of the store had claimed a total of $20 million in damages. The warehouse and shipper’s liens caused the loss of a significant portion of the goods. In 2019, it was reported that the company’s overall liabilities amounted to $78 million, while the proceeds from the sale of the warehouse were only $245,000. An online shop located in Shanghai made the purchase, which included the intellectual property rights to the Alfred Angelo labels.
