The 2023 Subaru Solterra, called by combining the Latin words for “sun” and “earth,” is the first AWD electric car with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The Solterra is a zero-emissions, all-electric SUV with 8.3 inches of ground clearance, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and state-of-the-art active safety.
The automobile was built utilising Toyota’s electric and 4X4 drive experience. Initially? Massive silhouette with hexagonal grille is aggressive.
This design is to attract loyal consumers, but the car’s whole line and several inlays are meant to reduce air resistance. Electricity requires efficient energy utilisation.
The 4.7-meter-long automobile has a new platform. We’re used to electric cars weighing over two tonnes. The electric car’s 21 cm ground clearance surprised me the most. It gives me optimism that it won’t give up on the first climb. Plus 18-20-inch wheels and small overhangs… it looks good.
Subaru’s interior is groundbreaking. One screen in front of the driver’s eyes with TFT LCD technology offers clarity from any aspect, and the 12.3-inch multimedia display gives all information and entertainment.
Front and back room shouldn’t bother passengers. Even at 1.85 m tall, I fit in each armchair. Solterra doesn’t require leg adjustments, so it’s great for extended rides. The baggage compartment holds 421-452 l.
The 2023 Solterra has larger cargo space than the Kia Niro EV1 with up to 30 cubic feet. Low load height, a 41-inch-wide rear gate opening, and a Power Rear Gate make loading easy. Raised roof rails carry extra stuff, bikes, and more.
No front passenger compartment is unusual. This isn’t a drawback because the core area has so many nooks and crannies to store items. Some old-fashioned characteristics were a positive. The new Subaru has several knobs, which I like. This version simply follows tradition.
Solterra features two 80 kW electric motors, one on each axle. Sprinting to 100 takes less than 7 seconds. 160 km/h max.
Subaru’s battery is 71.4 kWh. 150 kW for DC charging and 7 kW for AC. Range is crucial. WLTP says 414 or 465 kilometres, depending on equipment. Longer tests will confirm this result.
The 2023 Solterra’s 8.3-inch ground clearance and minimal overhangs make it easy to navigate across uneven terrain. Standard X-MODE with Hill Ascent and Descent Assist helps you tailor traction to trail conditions for stability and control.
The two-mode X-MODE and improved Grip Control provide electric cars additional control over dips and unevenness. During acceleration or fast corners, the car’s bulk was barely noticeable.
Subaru coped equally on slopes, and the driver support systems performed well. The 360-degree camera system in particular offered a film-like vision while we were nearing a narrow viaduct while driving off-road. It was the first time I got the opportunity to drive an automobile in such conditions and Subaru made a wonderful impact on me.
After our exams, there was a little of a disappointment, but now you have to be patient. The first Subaru Solterra automobiles are to emerge in Polish dealerships by the end of summer at the latest. We shall know the pricing of this model soon.
