Limit your time spent outside.

Some people workout outdoors in hot weather, despite experts’ advice to stay indoors.

It’s about thermoregulation or maintaining an ideal temperature of 36–36.9 °C. Biological and cellular functions occur at a constant body temperature. Expert: “Any body temperature fluctuations interfere with these processes.”

Human body thermoregulation systems keep the body temperature stable. Walking or running produces heat that our bodies must release.

When the temperature is near our body temperature, control is limited. The expert advises that heat and physical activity are a deadly mix.

If you lose thermoregulatory mechanisms, Heat shock and system problems might result.

How to survive the heat?

  • Limit your exposure to full sun (especially between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM)
  • Stay hydrated – don’t make yourself thirsty. Drink several sips of mineralized water regularly
  • Eat light meals. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits.
  • Don’t forget about prophylaxis: wear sunglasses, a cap or a hat and appropriate clothes – light, airy, loose – use a cream with a UV filter.
  • Avoid physical exertion.
  • Don’t drink alcohol as it dehydrates your body.
  • During the day, close and shade the windows in the apartment. Thanks to this, you will maintain a lower temperature in the room.
  • If possible, cool down in the shower (remember, however, that the water should be at room temperature, otherwise – in the case of cold water – such a bath may end up with a thermal shock).
  • The body temperature can also be lowered by applying cold compresses to the neck or head.
  • The difference between the temperature in the air-conditioned room and that outside should not be too great.
