Sleep deprivation can cause blindness

Glaucoma, the main cause of blindness, may afflict 112 million people globally over the next 20 years, according to research. This is because persons who snore and have very short sleep periods are drowsy during the day.

According to Sky News, glaucoma is characterized by the loss of light-sensitive cells in the eye and damage to the optic nerve. If the illness is not addressed, it might cause progressive visual loss. A study published in the journal BMJ Open discovered a variety of indicators suggesting poor sleep and glaucoma are associated.
