The severity of the liver damage in cases of cirrhosis, among other things, influences the prognosis. Patients with compensated cirrhosis have a 47% chance of surviving for 10 years (assuming no significant problems arise). In decompensated cirrhosis, the 5-year survival rate is around 16%, and the 10-year survival rate is extremely poor. Unfortunately, many patients learn about the condition only after complications have occurred.
Cirrhosis prognosis can be predicted using the Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) scale, which includes indications including bilirubin, albumin, ascites, and others.
