Why our body needs healthy fats?

Our bodies require healthy fats for various reasons:

  1. Energy Source: Fats are a concentrated source of energy. They provide more than twice the amount of energy compared to carbohydrates and proteins. Healthy fats can help fuel our bodies during prolonged activities or when carbohydrates are limited.

  2. Nutrient Absorption: Some vitamins (such as vitamins A, D, E, and K) are fat-soluble, meaning they require fats to be properly absorbed and utilized by the body. Including healthy fats in our diet helps ensure the effective absorption of these essential vitamins.
  3. Cell Function: Fats are a vital component of cell membranes. They help maintain the integrity and fluidity of cell membranes, allowing cells to function properly. Additionally, fats play a crucial role in signaling pathways that regulate various bodily processes.
  4. Hormone Production: Healthy fats are necessary for the production of several hormones, including reproductive hormones and hormones involved in regulating appetite, metabolism, and stress response. A balanced intake of healthy fats supports healthy hormone production.
  5. Brain Health: Our brains are composed of about 60% fat, and healthy fats are crucial for optimal brain function. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty fish like salmon, have been particularly linked to brain health and cognitive function.
  6. Heart Health: Consuming healthy fats in moderation, like those found in avocados, nuts, and olive oil, may have a positive impact on heart health. These fats can help improve cholesterol levels, reduce inflammation, and promote overall heart health.

It is important to note that while healthy fats are beneficial, they should be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. Including a variety of sources like avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and fatty fish can help ensure a well-rounded intake of these essential nutrients.
