Why do we get sick despite drugs and vaccines? We lose immunity with age

A weakened immune system will not respond properly to the vaccination. This is especially true of the elderly and the chronically ill. Immunologists say that with age, the immune system “wears out” – explains prof. Piotr Trzonkowski, immunologist from the Medical University of Gdańsk.
Prof. Piotr Trzonkowski shared his thoughts during a debate organized by the Foundation for Polish Science entitled: “Why do properly vaccinated people sometimes suffer from COVID-19?”. He recalled the effect of aging – as a natural process that influences the effectiveness of medical treatments, including vaccination.
Immunologists say that as you age, your immune system “wears out”. As we age, we lose the thymus – the organ that produces T cells – responsible for cellular immunity in the body. They too help build immunity after vaccination.
He also mentioned another mechanism that regulates the response of the immune system – the so-called “The body’s pro-inflammatory readiness.”
Older people have a high level of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the body, responsible for the so-called “Cytokine storm”. If we were to compare a 20-year-old and an 80-year-old, the normal, physiological levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in an 80-year-old are so high that they would cause sepsis in a 20-year-old. So the willingness to enter a cytokine storm and hemorrhagic pneumonia after infection is much greater. These are the reasons why elderly people react poorly to vaccinations, and when they start to get sick, they get seriously ill “- explained the immunologist. He also recalled that the main role of the vaccine is to protect against hospitalization and death. “There has been a study conducted on 100-year-olds in Italy that showed the elderly get sick, but the vaccine – in this case the flu vaccine – protects them from dying. prof. Trzonkowski explained prof.
In his speech, the expert also discussed the cases of young people suffering from chronic diseases, whose immune system does not respond to vaccination.
Here the conditions are dictated by the nature of the disease. In some patients who are taking immunosuppressants, the immune system will not respond because the drugs stop it working. The immunologist said.
In turn, prof. Michał Witt, geneticist and molecular biologist, director of the Institute of Human Genetics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań – points out that medicine has not found such drugs that would work 100%. Therefore, you should not expect 100%. the effectiveness of any vaccine.
Medicine has not found such drugs that would work 100 percent. We’d love to do that, but it hasn’t happened yet. We know that vaccines on the market have a limited mode of action. We know that the flu vaccine is 40-60 percent effective, the tetanus vaccine is 90 percent effective, and the pertussis vaccine is 70 percent effective. These ranges are different in each case.
prof. Witt mentioned
He also added textbook information on genetics to help understand why everyone responds differently to medications and vaccinations.
Genetics says that each of us is different and each of us has a different equipment – a different genetic profile – also in terms of genes that determine immune resistance. Therefore, we react differently. You also have to take into account the lifestyle we are at and what other diseases we are struggling with. The immune system does not work the same all the time – it has its ups and downs – depending on how and what it is attacked (e.g. with other infections). Prof. Michał Witt said.

What gives you a stomachache?
Everyone has experienced abdominal pain at one time or another. Organs that have to do with your digestion often cause problems. For example, your intestines or your stomach. It usually goes away on its own, but sometimes more research is needed to determine the cause of abdominal pain.
If you eat products that cause a lot of gas, such as beans, onions, cabbage and spicy dishes, you can experience flatulence, cramps and rumbling in your stomach. Stress also makes your gut go crazy. Stress hormones affect the production of stomach acid and intestinal peristalsis, causing your intestines to work too quickly. If your stool passes through the large intestine too quickly, you get diarrhea.

Due to incorrect nutrition, too little exercise, medicines, and stress, the intestinal contents sometimes pass through your intestine too slowly, making the stool hard. Such a blockage manifests itself in abdominal pain and bloating. Eating a lot of fiber, drinking water and exercising can help prevent constipation.
Food hypersensitivity
If you are allergic to certain foods, you will suffer from skin, breathing or stomach complaints if you eat them anyway. Your immune system mistakes certain proteins in the food in question for invaders and therefore makes antibodies. These antibodies in turn cause the production of other substances, such as histamine, that cause the allergic symptoms.
If you experience bloating, flatulence or diarrhea after consuming dairy products, you may have lactose intolerance. Lactose is a sugar found in milk. Not everyone can digest it well, resulting in abdominal pain.
Appendicitis
In the lower right corner of your abdomen is the cecum, a small, finger-shaped tissue pouch. If this appendage becomes inflamed, you often get a sudden, severe pain around the navel that later spreads to the lower right. Touching or letting go of the abdomen is painful and laughing and coughing also hurt. With appendicitis you can also suffer from fever and nausea. An inflamed appendix must be surgically removed.
Stomach flu
Gastrointestinal infection is also popularly referred to as stomach flu. A bacteria, virus or parasite attacks the intestinal wall, causing diarrhea and abdominal cramps. If the infection is caused by eating spoiled food, we speak of food poisoning. Often you are also nauseous and you have to vomit. Drink enough small amounts so that you don’t become dehydrated. If you get hungry again, you can eat normally. The symptoms disappear on their own.
Chronic intestinal inflammation
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis both cause abdominal pain that is often accompanied by diarrhea and blood and mucus in the stool. In both conditions you have inflammation in the digestive tract. They are also called Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). In Crohn’s disease, inflammation occurs throughout the gastrointestinal tract: from mouth to anus. In ulcerative colitis, only the lining of the colon or rectum becomes inflamed.
The course differs greatly per patient, some people have occasional complaints, others have severe attacks. If you suffer from chronic intestinal inflammation, you run a slightly higher risk of developing colon cancer . Colon cancer also causes abdominal pain.
Stomach ulcer
An ulcer is a type of wound in the protective layer of the stomach or duodenum, which causes you to feel severe pain in the top of your abdomen. Usually a bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, is the cause of an ulcer , but you can also get one if you take certain pain relievers, such as NSAIDs and aspirin. It used to be thought that stress gives you an ulcer, but that is not the case. A stomach ulcer is treated with antacids and possibly antibiotics if the Helicobacter pylori is present in your stomach.
Irritable bowel syndrome
If you have abdominal complaints, but nothing abnormal is discovered, your doctor can diagnose irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS is common, about twice as common in women as in men. It is not medically serious, but it is very difficult. With IBS you have diarrhea or constipation or it varies. Stress worsens the symptoms.
Gallstones
The liver produces bile, a fluid you need to burn fats. It enters the small intestine via the common bile duct and bile duct. It consists of water, cholesterol, fats, bile salts and bilirubin. If the bile becomes too thick or the mixture becomes out of balance, for example because your cholesterol is too high, hard crystals form: gallstones . Larger specimens can become trapped in the passageway between the gallbladder and small intestine. Gallstones give a severe pain in the upper abdomen, where you can not sit still.
Other bodies
Not only your digestive system can cause abdominal pain, but also the liver, bladder, kidneys and in women the uterus and fallopian tubes. Inflammation can occur in various organs, such as liver inflammation or fallopian tube inflammation. In addition, your abdominal pain can be a sign of kidney stones, endometriosis or an (ectopic) pregnancy.
To the doctor
Abdominal pain usually goes away on its own, but if that does not happen, it is wise to contact your doctor. Do the same if the stomach pain gets worse, if the pain worsens when you move, or if you can’t sit still because of the pain. If the abdominal pain is accompanied by fever, weight loss, blood and mucus in the stool , blood in the urine or black stools, go to the doctor.

Ginger is so healthy
Not a pregnant, nauseous woman who has not been advised to take ginger for nausea. In Chinese medicine, ginger has been known for centuries for its positive effect on the stomach and digestion. Ginger could also be beneficial for the flu and could even prevent colon cancer.

What exactly is ginger? Ginger is a tuber root of the ginger plant. It was used in the Middle Ages to flavor dishes. You don’t eat ginger neat, you do make dishes tastier with it. You can buy ginger as a fresh tuber, but also candied, as a powder, or as a syrup.
In Chinese medicine, ginger is known for its positive effect on digestion, the stomach area and the lungs. In addition, ginger is said to have an analgesic effect. In the meantime, it is no longer just Chinese medicine that believes in the beneficial effects of ginger. Several scientific studies have shown that ginger contains anti-inflammatory substances.
colon cancer
Research has shown that ginger can help prevent tumors from forming. Research from the University of Michigan shows that certain ingredients in ginger may play a role in the prevention of colon cancer. The first research results are favorable. Follow-up research should show whether this is actually the case. In addition, taking a ginger supplement brought a number of side effects such as flatulence, heartburn, and stomach upset.
Diabetes
In addition, ginger appears to be effective in diabetes. Australian scientists at the University of Sydney discovered that ginger keeps blood glucose under control. The root tuber appears to be able to increase glucose uptake in muscle cells independently of insulin. This too needs to be further researched.
Flu
What ginger certainly helps against is nausea and the flu. Ginger is often used to alleviate these complaints. Add freshly grated ginger to other foods or have a glass of ginger tea or ginger beer.
Migraine
Research has also shown that ginger helps with migraines . Sumatriptan, a migraine drug, was compared to one-eighth of a teaspoon of ginger powder. It turned out that the ginger works just as well and just as quickly as the medicine. In addition, twenty percent of the drug suffered from side effects such as heart palpitations, dizziness and heartburn, while only one in twenty-five people indicated that they had some stomach problems with the ginger powder. Not a bad outcome, if only because an eighth of a teaspoon is much cheaper than the medicine.
Menstrual complaints
Ginger also seems to help with menstrual pain . In one study, women were given a quarter of a teaspoon of ginger powder three times during the first three days of their period. On a scale of 1 to 10, this group’s pain decreased from seven to five, while the group receiving a placebo noticed no change. Even one-eighth of a teaspoon of ginger powder reduced the pain from eight to six. In the end, ginger powder was compared to ibuprofen and yes, the ginger worked just as well.
When buying ginger, make sure that the tubers are firm and not dried out. If there are suckers on the tubers, that’s no problem. You can use that, but the taste is less strong. You can store fresh ginger in an open plastic bag in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator for about two to three weeks. Candied ginger and ginger powder can be stored for months.
Artificial sweeteners or sweeteners can cause cancer.
This was revealed in a medical study in France.
Numerous food products and beverages are made from artificial sweeteners that are consumed by millions of people every day.
A joint study by the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research and Sobony
Paris Nord University analyzed data from more than 100,000 adults.
These individuals reported medical history, diet, lifestyle, and health data during an online survey in 2019.

Researchers examined its effects in people who used artificial sweeteners over a 24-hour period.
They collected details of cancer diagnoses in these individuals and analyzed the link between artificial sweeteners and cancer risk.
Researchers took into consideration factors such as age, education, physical activity, smoking, body weight, height, weight gain in recent years, diabetes, family history of cancer, and access to energy from food.
Researchers have found that people who consume large amounts of sweeteners, especially aspartame and acesulfame-K, risk developing cancer.
The researchers acknowledged that the research was limited in some ways, such as people reporting their eating habits on their own, and that these individuals may be more educated and more health-conscious.
But he said our findings are not in favor of artificial sweeteners as a safe alternative to sugar and its potential side effects should be monitored.
He said that although extensive research is needed to confirm these findings, important information regarding these sweeteners is definitely available.
The results of the study were published in the medical journal Plus Medicine.
Earlier, in a study in December 2019, it was reported that most people prefer sugar to artificial sweeteners can become obese and diabetic.
The use of artificial sweeteners has increased over the past three decades, and research from the University of South Australia has found an association between this sweetness and body weight gain and type 2 diabetes.
The research team analyzed ongoing research reports on more than 5,000 adults over a period of 7 to 8 years.
Researchers have found that people who use artificial sweeteners at least twice a day gain more bodyweight than those who do not.
“Sweeteners can be a good source of weight loss, but only if the food choices are right, but people who are using these products often eat sugar with gusto,” he said.
They also discovered that artificial sweeteners can alter the bacteria in the stomach, increasing the risk of weight gain and type 2 diabetes.
Research suggests that healthy foods such as dairy products, fish, pulses, vegetables, fruits, plain water and other commodities should be preferred over low-calorie artificial sweeteners for weight loss
Folate deficiency can lead to dementia and premature death.

Folate deficiency in the elderly has raised concerns that it could increase the risk of dementia by 68 percent and triple the risk of premature death, scientists said on Monday.
This is why vitamin B9 or folate deficiencies are taken care of in developed countries and they are given its supplements. Scientists from the United States and Israel have conducted a joint study in the journal Evidence-Based Mental Health. It should be noted that folate is also a type of folic acid.
In this regard, medical details of 27188 persons between the ages of 60 to 75 years have been found. Initially, all of them had no symptoms of dementia. Over time and even ten years later, the amount of folate in their blood continued to be noted.
During this time, scientists also looked at dementia and mortality in all individuals. The total amount of folate in the blood of 3418 women and men was 4.4 nanograms per milliliter which was a very small amount. People with the lowest folate levels had a 3.5 percent higher risk of developing dementia and an 8% mortality rate.
But when it was combined with diabetes, vitamin B12, mental retardation, depression and other factors, it was found that folate deficiency increased the overall risk of dementia to 68%. Now, if these symptoms are combined, the risk of death can be tripled.
In this context, scientists have said that they must eat cabbage, green leafy vegetables, peas, beans, whole grains, cereals, avocado and liver because these foods contain unusual amounts of folate.
Can diabetics enjoy the sweetness of watermelon?

Watermelon is a fruit that keeps our body cool when the temperature is hot.
Watermelon is a very sweet fruit. Can people with diabetes eat it or not?
People who suffer from diabetics asks question regarding this fruit because they want to avoid complications after its consumption. They worry whether will spike their sugar level.
Research says a diet rich in fruit and vegetables enable people suffering from diabetics keep their sugar under control.
We must keep it in our minds that fruits also contain natural sweeteners and carbohydrates, so it is important to take care of their intake.
Watermelon and diabetes
Every diabetic patient must know that the sweetness of a fruit is not as important for them as its Glycemic Index (GI) number.
GI is a measure of how much of a carbohydrate-rich diet’s sweetness (glucose) can be absorbed into the bloodstream at certain times after eating, and is important for diabetics.
According to medical experts, diabetics need to control their blood glucose level and that is why their diet should be such that it can control this level. So for such patients, 15 grams of carbohydrate is not harmful to be part of the body through any fruit.
In the GI system, each food is given a score between 0 and 100. The higher the number, the higher the rate of blood sugar excretion.
Watermelon has a GI score of 72 and any diet above 70 is considered a high GI diet.
But according to experts, due to the high amount of water in the watermelon, its GI score decreases to some extent and since people eat only fresh fruits, it is better to avoid its juice.
Diabetics can eat watermelon with foods rich in healthy fats, fiber and protein.
The combination of these two keeps people’s stomachs full for a long time and slows down the absorption of sugar in the blood.
Benefits
Watermelon contains a variety of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin A, Vitamins B1 and B6, Vitamin C, Potassium, Magnesium, Fiber, Iron, Calcium and Lycopene.
Vitamin A is good for heart, kidney and lung functions and also benefits eyesight.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that strengthens the immune system, which helps prevent disease.
Potassium is an important nutrient in controlling blood pressure.
Watermelon also contains the amino acid citrulline which helps in improving blood pressure and metabolic health.
How much natural sugar is in watermelon?
A medium sized piece of watermelon (286 grams) contains 17.7 grams of sugar.
The amount of sugar formed by watermelon depends on the amount of sugar it contains.
How do diabetics include watermelon in their diet?
If a person includes watermelon or other fruits in their diet, it is important that they also take care of dietary fat and protein balance.
Fats and proteins help to slow down the absorption of sugar into the blood, it is also helpful for people with type 2 diabetes.
Like other fruits, it is better for diabetics to avoid sprinkling sugar on the fruit.
But it can be made a part of fruit licking.
But diabetics should avoid eating high-fat foods with watermelon and drink its juice or syrup.
Result
Overall, watermelon is safe for diabetics if they eat it in moderation.
Eating in moderation will have a mild effect on blood sugar levels.
Tips against heartburn
Heartburn usually manifests itself as a burning sensation in the throat and a sour taste in the mouth. The burning chest pain is caused by the backflow of stomach acid (gastroesophageal reflux) into the esophagus. The symptom of heartburn (pyrosis) can be harmless, but it doesn’t have to be. You should see your doctor to find out the cause.

Heartburn is a common ailment: in Pakistan every second person suffers from it. Some only from time to time, others frequently. Pregnant women and the elderly are often affected. Many “heartburn sufferers” are also familiar with acid regurgitation and a feeling of pressure in the chest area. We reveal what helps against heartburn.
Heartburn: valve into the acid
To understand how heartburn develops, it’s worth looking at how digestion works. Every day our body produces about two to three liters of gastric juice, the task of which is to process the chyme and eliminate harmful microorganisms. This is why the gastric juice is very acidic with a pH of 0.8 to 1.5.
The esophagus is a muscular tube about 25 centimeters long and one centimeter in diameter that is lined with mucous membrane. It connects the pharynx with the stomach. There is a sphincter (esophageal sphincter) at the entrance to the stomach. This is like a valve that relaxes during swallowing and opens to the stomach. The contents of the esophagus can flow into the stomach.
Normally, this path is a one-way street. The aggressive and highly acidic gastric juice poses no danger to the stomach thanks to its resistant mucous membrane. However, the esophagus is very sensitive. If the valve leaks, stomach acid can backflow and damage the esophagus.
Causes of heartburn
Heartburn can have various causes. These include stress and certain dietary habits, such as eating too much fat or eating too late. The following reasons, among others, can cause a disorder of the sphincter muscle and thus cause heartburn:
- Psychologically stressful situations such as stress stimulate gastric acid production and trigger heartburn.
- Certain foods affect sphincter pressure.
- Some medications (including some painkillers ) may be involved. Ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- A diaphragmatic hernia may have occurred. Part of the stomach moves through the opening in the diaphragm into the chest cavity.
- In pregnant women, the hormone progesterone causes the sphincter to relax, and the greatly enlarged uterus presses against the stomach and, as a result, its contents into the esophagus.
- In people who are overweight , it also happens that more stomach contents escape into the esophagus.
- Heartburn may be a warning sign of an organic disease such as a stomach ulcer or gastritis. This should be clarified by an examination by your doctor.
Burns of the esophageal mucosa
Occasional acid reflux is nothing to worry about at first. However, if the mucous membrane of the esophagus is regularly exposed to corrosive gastric juice, for example several times a week, it can cause irritation and damage to the mucous membranes (reflux esophagitis). Under certain circumstances, the mucous membrane is completely destroyed, internal bleeding or narrowing of the esophagus can occur.
The upper respiratory tract, teeth and gums can also be affected by the refluxing acid.
If left untreated, heartburn can lead to a disease such as esophagitis. In the worst case, an ulcer or cancer can form.
By the way: The English term “heartburn” (heartburn) is misleading, since the heart is not involved in heartburn. However, heartburn causes a burning warmth in the chest, which is where the name comes from.
15 tips and home remedies for heartburn
Below you will find some tips and home remedies that can help against annoying heartburn.
- Eat several (five to six) small meals a day. Large meals are very bulky and result in an overfull stomach. The risk of stomach acid being pushed into the esophagus is increased.
- In the evenings in particular, you should avoid large meals and not eat too late.
- Don’t lie down immediately after eating.
- It is helpful to sleep with your upper body slightly elevated.
- Lose weight if you weigh too many pounds.
- Avoid stress, which is a common heartburn trigger. Relaxation exercises, exercise, meditation and rest can help reduce stress and thus heartburn.
- Do not wear tight clothing and loosen your belt.
- A hunched or hunched posture promotes reflux.
- Avoid alcohol and tobacco.
- Avoid highly acidic drinks such as grapefruit, lemon and other citrus juices .
- Proven home remedies are teas with chamomile, fennel or caraway.
- Chewing gum is said to reduce reflux; Apparently, the increased saliva production when chewing gum protects the lining of the esophagus.
- Studies have shown that sweets, such as chocolate , can be a trigger for people struggling with heartburn. In these cases, the theobromine contained in chocolate is responsible.
- The influence of coffee on heartburn is not fully understood. Coffee consumption may increase the symptoms.
- Many people describe heartburn occurring after eating spicy, hot food. However, the nature of the active ingredients in the herbal spices differs considerably, which is why a uniform assessment is not possible. Research has shown that the active ingredient capsaicin, which is responsible for the heat in chili peppers, increases the sensitivity of the esophagus to gastric juice and thus intensifies the burning sensation.
Does milk help heartburn?
Again and again one reads recommendations to drink milk for heartburn. This results from the assumption that the protein in the milk buffers the stomach acid. In the past, patients with this clinical picture were fed exclusively with milk.
Whether that helped is questionable. On the one hand, such a one-sided diet is not recommended to anyone and, on the other hand, scientists have proven that milk even stimulates acid production in the stomach.
Amazing Medical Benefits of Guava
Guava is a fruit that has been used in traditional medicine since the times of ancient China and India. It is believed to have originated from South America, but it is now widely grown in tropical regions all over the world.

The benefits of Guava are numerous and include reducing colon cancer risk, lowering blood pressure, improving digestion, and also curing heart diseases. It is also beneficial in mental illnesses, hemorrhoids, and colds.
Guava contains a significant amount of polyphenols that are beneficial for the body. Polyphenols can improve digestion, lower cholesterol and also cure heart diseases.
Guava is a very useful fruit for chronic constipation patients. Guava seeds kill stomach worms,
According to a study published in the Journal of Human Hypertension, guava controls cholesterol in the body which can prevent many heart diseases.
It is better to eat guava before eating because it makes you hungry but eating guava after eating can cause constipation.
Guava has a cold temper, so it is best to use it for people who suffer from hemorrhage in summer.
This fruit develops immunity in the human body and is a very useful fruit for patients with high blood pressure.
Guava is also considered one of the most nutritious fruits on Earth because it contains high levels of antioxidants and vitamin C. These antioxidants help with skin care, heart health, and digestive health
Due to the presence of antioxidants in guava, it protects the cells in the human body, due to which the effects of premature aging on human beings are not noticeable.
Guava also contains lycopene, which prevents the formation of tumors in the body, which reduces the risk of cancer.
In addition, this fruit is also very useful for diabetics because it lowers the amount of sugar in the body.
